Parks & Recreation - Recreation Board

The Olmsted Regional Recreation Board (ORRB), which oversees recreation activities in the Borough of Middletown, began operation in January, 1969. In addition to the Borough, contributing members also include Lower Swatara Township, the Borough of Royalton, and the Middletown Area School District. The Board is comprised of two (2) members of the governing body of each contributing member, as well as a member-at-large, who is appointed by the other members of the Board. The current members are:

Recreation Board meetings are held the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 P.M. at 55 West Water Street unless otherwise posted.

Their offices are located in the Main Street Youth Center located in the lower level of the Main Street Gym. The Recreation Secretary is available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am until noon. The telephone number is (717) 948-3318.

The ORRB offers a variety of year-round recreational and leisure activities for all ages. Programs and activities range from aquatics, aerobics, summer day camps, basketball, and craft classes. Programs are listed on the Middletown Area School District website www.raiderweb.org.

In addition, residents can become active in the Middletown Amateur Baseball Association (MABA), which offers youth baseball and softball, and the Olmsted Regional Soccer Association, which offers youth soccer.

The Borough also owns two (2) public gymnasiums that are available to Borough residents to rent for parties and recreation use.

The gym at the Borough Hall is called the MCSO and houses the Middletown Senior Center during the daytime hours, Monday through Friday. This facility is ideal for parties, wedding receptions and other group activities. There are also two (2) basketball standards and portable volleyball standards in the gym.

The Main Street Gym is located on West Main Street and is available for groups to rent for pick-up basketball games. The rental fee for each facility is $25.00 per hour.
