Unlike most other municipalities, Middletown Borough owns and operates its own electric distribution system, providing light and power to the Borough's residents and commercial establishments at very economical rates. Additionally, the income from the sale of its electricity stays within the Borough, saving Middletown residents the burden of higher taxes. Some of the Department's operating budget is obtained through the Electric Trust Fund.

The Electric Department also provides services such as street lighting and traffic light maintenance. Electric Department employees also perform other work, saving the Borough the expense of contracting, such as:

  • hanging and installing the Borough's many holiday decorations
  • hanging banners over highways
  • inside electrical work in all Borough-owned facilities
  • tree trimming

electricFor specific question about the borough's electrical distribution system or to report a problem, contact the Electric Utility Department at 902-3078.
