Children from Middletown, as well as the children from the surrounding municipalities of Royalton Borough and Lower Swatara Township, attend either the public schools of the Middletown Area School District or the parochial schools of Seven Sorrows BVM Church or the Middletown Christian School.

The only school of the Middletown Area School District that is actually located within the Borough of Middletown is the Lyall Fink Elementary School. The Middletown Area Middle School, High School, and the Robert G. Reid Elementary School are located on the MASD campus within Lower Swatara Township.
